Frequently Asked Questions

If you require assistance or are looking for other documentation, please contact our team. We are available 8am-5pm AKST Monday-Friday.
What is AWM and what does it mean?

AWM stands for "Appliance Wiring Material," which is a program designated by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) indicating that our wire meets specific safety and performance requirements for use in numerous internal wiring applications. AWM is a general standard with thousands of designated styles approved for use among thousands of unique applications.

By printing AWM on our wire, we carry an industry recognized third-party certification that our wire has been tested and proven to meet stringent safety, durability, and performance standards in various applications, including general industrial and commercial use.

What is "100% Copper Class K Stranding" and why do you use it in your wire?

100% Copper is utilized in all our conductors for utmost quality and conductivity - we sell absolutely no copper clad wire. We stand by our dedication to quality utilizing only the finest conductor constructions to ensure our wire remains at the peak of performance for industrial excellence.

Class K Stranding refers to the size and number of copper strands we use to construct our wire conductors. Our Class K construction uses 30 AWG copper strands to create our sizes. For more details on how many stands we put in each wire size, check out our Class K Conductors Table. Class K stranding contributes our wire's superior flexibility by flexing with our insulation and increases the conductivity of our by providing more strand surface area.

Is Arctic Ultraflex Blue® tin-plated?

All of our 18 AWG to 10 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue® wire is stocked tin-plated for additional corrosion resistance. While we do not stock tin-plated Arctic Ultraflex Blue® conductor constructions in our larger wire sizes, they may be available upon special order - minimums apply. For a custom wire manufacturing request, click here.

Can Arctic Ultraflex Blue® be used in marine applications?

Yes! Many of our marine customers prefer Arctic Ultraflex Blue® in their projects for its superior performance and installation-friendly construction. However, though Arctic Ultraflex Blue® is arctic-grade and certified for general internal equipment wiring, for inspected vessels and stringent marine code compliant applications, we recommend our boat cable rated Multi Listed Flexible Wire. For multiconductor marine applications, we also carry a marine code compliant multiconductor Premium Boat Cable available in round and flat configurations!

Why is Arctic Ultraflex Blue®/Arctic Superflex Blue® more expensive than other wire?

We designed Arctic Ultraflex Blue® and Arctic Superflex Blue® as a premium product for superior performance.

Premium TPE Insulation

We designed a revolutionary flexible yet durable TPE insulation blend that is designed to perform in harsh cold weather conditions. However, because of it's superior flexibility, Arctic Ultraflex Blue® has become the preferred premium flexible wire in nearly every industry among the most demanding wiring applications.

Class K Stranding

To complement our premium insulation blend, we construct our conductors with 100% copper in a 30 AWG Class K configuration. Using a collection of 30 AWG strands to construct our wire sizes, copper rods must be drawn out to 30 AWG and bunched together to create our conductor. For perspective, our 4/0 AWG construction has over 2000 strands! In addition, we utilize 100% copper stranding ensuring maximal conductivity and performance.
